Brassica rapa subsp. nipposinica. USDA organic. Cool season. 30-50 days. Sow in early spring or late summer. Heirloom. The perfect mustard green for mescluns - slightly peppery flavor. Tolerates cold and heat. Commonly used as an ornamental. A graceful plant in flower beds and also a tender, mildly spicy mustard green that is ready to harvest in as little as 3 weeks. Withstands heat longer than lettuce without bolting. Beautiful and prolific branching plant will germinate under cold and wet spring conditions. Use fresh in salads, steam, or stir-fry. Days to Emerge: 5-10 days. Seed Depth: 1/4 inch. Seed Spacing: A group of 3 seeds every 10 inches. Row Spacing: 18 inches (10 inches as bedding plant). Thinning: When 1 inch tall, thin to 1 every 10 inches. When to Sow Outside: Recommended. 4 to 6 weeks before average last, frost or as soon as soil can be worked, when soil temperature is at least 40 degrees F, ideally 60-75 degrees F. Successive Sowings: Every 3 weeks until early fall for continuous harvest. The best mustard flavor occurs after light fall frosts. Mild Climates: Can be sown in late fall through winter for cool season harvest. When to Start Inside: Not recommended.
